Cooling Time & Temperature

Cooling Temperature & Duration

The cooling performance depends on the size of your Nomad Pro: the Large model provides slightly longer refrigeration than the Medium.

LARGE NOMAD PRO

🌡️ At 30°C → keeps your insulin & medication refrigerated (2–8°C) for 33 hours, and cool (below 26°C) for 52 hours.

🌡️ At 35°C → keeps your insulin & medication refrigerated for 30 hours, and cool for 48 hours.

🌡️ At 40°C → keeps your insulin & medication refrigerated for 28 hours, and cool for 46 hours.

MEDIUM NOMAD PRO

🌡️ At 30°C → keeps your insulin & medication refrigerated for 30 hours, and cool for 48 hours.

🌡️ At 35°C → keeps your insulin & medication refrigerated for 28 hours, and cool for 46 hours.

🌡️ At 40°C → keeps your insulin & medication refrigerated for 26 hours, and cool for 44 hours.

Pro Tip: Extend The Cooling Duration!

For extended trips or continuous use, keep extra Biogel freeze packs on hand, ready to swap when you need to use your Nomad Pro for longer!

How to Use Your Cooler

How to Use the Nomad Pro Insulin Case for Traveling

The Nomad Pro travel cases are designed to be simple, safe, and reliable for everyday use and travel.

  1. Prepare the Biogel Freeze Pack: Shake the Biogel pack up and down four or five times to evenly distribute the gel inside.
  2. Freeze the Pack: Place the Biogel pack in the freezer for 6–8 hours before use. (No problem if it stays in the freezer longer.)
  3. Activate Before Use: Submerge the frozen Biogel in lukewarm tap water for 2–3 minutes before placing it into the insulated cooling bottle. In the absence of luke-warm water, leave it outside for 15-20 minutes before use. Following one of the procedures above will remove the ice layer (frost) from the surface of the cooling pack, eliminating the risks of freezing your medicine when in direct contact.
  4. Dry & Load: Pat the Biogel freeze pack dry with a towel, then place your insulin or other medications inside the Nomad Pro Cooling Case along with the freeze pack.
  5. Secure & Monitor: Close the lid tightly, and check the touch-screen temperature display any time you need to confirm your medications are stored within the safe range (shown in both °C and °F).

Frequently asked questions

How Long Does The Nomad PRO Keep Insulin Refrigerated?

The Medium Nomad PRO keeps insulin at fridge temperature (2–8°C) for up to 30 hours in 30°C ambient heat, and up to 26 hours in 40°C heat.

The Big Nomad PRO offers slightly longer performance — up to 32 hours in 30°C ambient heat, and up to 28 hours in 40°C heat.

Both sizes will also keep medications cool below 26°C for up to 46–52 hours, making them reliable medical travel coolers for multi-day trips.

Will The Nomad PRO Insulin Carrying Case Hold Up In Very Hot Weather?

Absolutely — the Nomad PRO is built to handle whatever the weather throws at it. Even at a sweltering 40°C, the Big Nomad PRO will keep your insulin at a safe fridge temperature for up to 28 hours.

That said, as with any portable cooler, it's best to avoid leaving it in a parked car or in direct sunlight to get the most out of it.

How Many Insulin Pens Fit In The Nomad PRO Carrying Case?

It depends on the size and your insulin pen brand.

The Medium Nomad PRO holds up to 3 pens of many common insulin brands available in Canada (Lantus, NovoRapid, Toujeo, Admelog, Novomix) and up to 2 pens of wider formats (Tresiba, Humalog, Levemir, Fiasp, Basaglar).

The Big Nomad PRO holds up to 7 pens of most standard formats and up to 6 pens of the wider ones.

🔍 Check the full compatibility list on the product image for your specific insulin pen brand. If you're not sure, contact our support team for personalized advice.

Can I Use The Nomad PRO to Carry GLP-1 Injections Like Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro?

Yes, absolutely! The Nomad PRO is fully compatible with GLP-1 weight-loss and diabetes injections available in Canada, including Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Saxenda, Trulicity, and Victoza.

🔍 Always check the specific fit using the size guide on the product image, as pen dimensions can vary. If you're not sure, contact our support team for personalized advice.

Can I Use The Nomad PRO To Carry Other Refrigerated Medications?

Yes, absolutely! The Nomad PRO is a great medical cooler for a wide range of biologics and autoimmune medications that require refrigerated storage, including Enbrel, Actemra, Humira, Dupixent, and many others.

🔍 Storage capacity varies by pen or syringe format — check the full compatibility list on the product image or contact our support team for personalized guidance.

What Is The Difference Between The Medium And The Big Nomad PRO? Which One Should I Choose?

The key difference between these two sizes is storage capacity and refrigeration duration.

The Medium Nomad PRO (24 cm tall, 6.5 cm diameter / 9.5 in tall, 2.5 in diameter) is more compact and perfectly suited for daily carry with 1–3 injection pens.

The Big Nomad PRO (26.5 cm tall, 8.5 cm diameter / 10.4 in tall, 3.3 in diameter) offers significantly more internal space and can carry up to 7 injection pens — ideal for longer trips or if you're carrying quite a few injections. It also keeps things cool for marginally longer.

Is The Nomad PRO Really Worth The Upgrade From The Standard Nomad Cooling Case?

It depends on what you need. The Nomad PRO is the upgraded version of our best-selling Nomad Insulin Carrying Case, with three key improvements:

  • a built-in digital touch-screen temperature display showing the internal temperature in real time;
  • a scratch-resistant finish in bold new colors;
  • and a premium insulated carry bag included in the box for added protection and convenience.

The core cooling technology, Biogel system, airport security compliance, and medication compatibility are identical across both models.

How Does The Temperature Display On The Nomad PRO Work?

The Nomad PRO features an integrated digital touch screen on the lid that shows the real-time internal temperature — without needing to open your cooler.

On the Medium Nomad PRO, it runs on long-lasting button-cell batteries with an estimated lifespan of up to 2 years (roughly 30,000 display activations). When the battery eventually runs low, you can replace it yourself with a sharp tool by rotating the glass display where indicated.

On the Big Nomad PRO, the lid is rechargeable via USB (cable and plug included).

Does The Nomad PRO Need To Be Plugged In To Keep Medications Cool?

Not at all! The Nomad PRO keeps your medication cool through entirely passive cooling — no electricity, no USB connection, and no charging required whatsoever.

It does its job solely through the included Biogel Ice Pack. The temperature display lid runs on a replaceable button-cell battery rather than a rechargeable one, so there's genuinely nothing to plug in.

That makes the Nomad PRO completely self-sufficient — perfect for flights, traveling off the beaten track, outdoor activities, or anywhere you can't rely on a power outlet.

What Is The Insulated Carry Bag For, And Do I Need To Use It?

The carry bag is a great bonus accessory included with the Nomad PRO Insulin Carrying Case.

It's not required for the cooling system to work — but it is insulated, so if you do choose to use it, it adds an extra layer of thermal protection on top of the Nomad PRO's already excellent standalone performance.

Beyond that, it's been designed with everyday convenience in mind:

  • it keeps your cooling case protected from scratches and wear;
  • it comes with an adjustable shoulder strap for comfortable carrying;
  • and it features handy storage pockets to keep your diabetic accessories, spare needles, and other medical essentials nice and organized.
Is This Cooler Approved For Air Travel? Can I Pack It In My Carry-On?

Absolutely! Like all 4AllFamily's medical travel coolers, the Nomad PRO is fully approved for airport security and can be carried through in your carry-on — whether you're flying from a Canadian airport, across the US, or on international routes.

💡 Do make sure to carry your medication alongside your travel cooler to show it's being used for medical purposes — this makes getting through security quick and easy.

Can I Use The Nomad PRO To Carry Open, In-Use Insulin Pens Or Vials?

It depends on your insulin or medication's specific storage instructions.

The Nomad PRO is engineered to maintain refrigerated temperatures (2–8°C), which may be too cold for some types and brands of insulin or medication that should be kept cool but not returned to the fridge after opening.

💡 To protect your in-use insulin pen or medication from heat, we'd recommend checking out the Rambler single-pen cooler, the Rambler PRO, or the Chillers cool pouches instead.

What If I Need To Keep My Medication Cold For More Than 33 Hours?

Simply pick up additional Biogel Ice Packs from 4AllFamily and swap them out once the first pack warms up.

Pop the used pack back in the freezer while the second one is doing its job, and you've got continuous, uninterrupted refrigeration — perfect for longer trips or traveling without reliable freezer access.

What Is The Return And Warranty Policy For The Nomad PRO Insulin Carrying Case?

Not happy with your Nomad PRO? No worries — you've got 30 days from delivery to request a return.

🔍 Check out our return policy page for the full details.

Your Nomad PRO also comes with a 1-year warranty, and if you'd like some extra peace of mind, you can add up to 3 more years of coverage at checkout for a small fee. We cover all defects and malfunctions — just not scratches, everyday wear, or accidental damage.

And our Lifetime Customer-Oriented Support team is always available — just reach out, whatever you need.

Ideal for Insulin, Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy, Zepbound, and 30+ Medications!
