How to Use Your Cooler

How to Use the Nomad Insulin Cooling Cases

The Nomad Cooling Cases for Insulin & Medications are very easy to use.

1. Prepare the Biogel: For even distribution, shake the Biogel freeze pack up and down four or five times.

2. Then, simply place your Biogel freeze pack in the freezer for 6-8 hours before use. (there is no issue if you leave it in the freezer for more than 8 hours.)

3. Once you need to use it, submerge the freeze pack in luke-warm tap water for 120-180 seconds before placing it into the insulated cooling bottle. In the absence of luke-warm water, leave it outside for 15-20 minutes before use; however, the warm tap water method is more efficient throughout the year and at various seasonal temperatures. Following one of the procedures above will remove the ice layer (frost) from the surface of this cooling component, eliminating the risks of freezing your medicine when in direct contact.

4. Gently towel dry the Biogel and place your insulin or medicine inside the cooling case, along with the frozen pack.

5. Securely close the lid. It's that simple!

Frequently asked questions

How Long Does The Carrying Case Keep Insulin And Medications Refrigerated?

The Medium Nomad Carrying Case keeps insulin at fridge temperature (2–8°C) for up to 30 hours in 30°C ambient heat, and up to 26 hours in 40°C heat.

The Big Nomad Carrying Case offers slightly longer performance — up to 33 hours at 30°C.

Both sizes will also keep medications cool below 26°C for up to 48–52 hours, making them reliable for multi-day trips.

Is The Nomad Insulin Case Safe To Use In Extreme Heat, Like On A Beach Or In A Hot Car?

Absolutely — the Nomad is built to handle whatever the weather throws at it. Even at a sweltering 40°C, the Nomad will keep your insulin at a safe fridge temperature for up to 28 hours.

That said, as with any insulin cooler, it's best to avoid leaving it in a parked car or in direct sunlight to get the most out of it.

How Many Insulin Pens Fit In The Nomad Carrying Case?

It depends on the size and brand of your insulin pen.

The Medium Nomad holds up to 3 pens of many common insulin brands available in Canada (Lantus, NovoRapid, Toujeo, Actrapid) and up to 2 pens of wider formats (Tresiba, Levemir, Humalog).

The Big Nomad holds up to 7 pens of most standard formats and up to 6 pens of the wider ones.

🔍 Check the full compatibility list on the product images for your specific insulin pen brand. If you're not sure, feel free to contact our support team for personalized advice.

Can I Use The Nomad Cases For GLP-1 Injections Like Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro?

Yes, absolutely! The Nomad Carrying Cases are great coolers for GLP-1 weight-loss and diabetes injections available in Canada, including Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Saxenda, Trulicity, and Victoza.

Always check the specific fit using the size guide on the product images, as pen dimensions can vary.

🔍 If you're not sure, feel free to contact our support team for personalized advice!

Can I Use The Nomad Cases To Carry Other Refrigerated Medications?

Yes, absolutely! The Nomad are compatible with a wide range of biologics and autoimmune medications that need to stay refrigerated, including Humira, Dupixent (200 mg and 300 mg), Enbrel, Cosentyx, Kevzara, Benlysta, Nucala, Fasenra, and many others.

🔍 Storage capacity varies by pen size — check the detailed compatibility list on the product image or feel free to contact our support team for personalized guidance.

What Is The Difference Between The Medium And The Big Nomad? Which One Should I Choose?

The main difference is storage capacity and internal dimensions.

The Medium Nomad (24 cm / 9.5 in tall, 6.5 cm / 2.5 in diameter) is more compact and well suited for daily carry with 1–3 pens.

The Big Nomad (26.5 cm / 10.4 in tall, 8.5 cm / 3.3 in diameter) offers significantly more internal space (up to 7 pens) — ideal for longer trips or if you're carrying multiple medications. It also keeps your medications cool for marginally longer.

What Is The Difference Between The Nomad and The Nomad PRO?

The Nomad PRO Insulin Carrying Case includes everything the Nomad offers, with one key upgrade: a built-in digital touch-screen temperature display that shows the internal temperature in real time.

If knowing your medication's exact storage temperature gives you peace of mind, the Nomad Pro is well worth the upgrade. If you're happy with the proven Biogel Ice Pack system and prefer a simpler, more affordable option, the standard Nomad is an excellent medication cooler.

The Nomad Pro also comes with a handy carry bag, offering extra insulation and scratch protection.

Is The Biogel Ice Pack Really Safe For Medical Use?

The Biogel Ice Pack included with our medical travel coolers uses a non-toxic natural gel with a freezing point of 2°C — the same as the lower boundary of safe fridge temperature.

Unlike standard water-based ice packs (which freeze at 0°C and can damage medication on contact), the Biogel physically cannot drop below that threshold, eliminating any risk of freezing your insulin or medication.

Our Biogel Ice Packs are reusable for unlimited cooling cycles.

Does The Nomad Insulin Carrying Case Require Electricity To Keep Medications Cool?

No — the Nomad requires no electricity, no USB connection, and no batteries whatsoever.

It works entirely through passive cooling using the included Biogel Ice Pack, making it ideal for hiking, camping, beach days, or long-haul flights where power access is limited.

💡 For USB-powered medical travel coolers, check out our electric coolers and mini fridges, like the Voyager, Voyager Mini, Pioneer, Pioneer PRO, or the Explorer.

Is There A Thermometer Or Temperature Display On The Nomad Case?

No. The Nomad does not include a built-in thermometer or temperature display.

💡 If real-time temperature monitoring matters to you, check out the upgraded Nomad Pro, which features a digital temperature display.

The Nomad is designed for simplicity — its Biogel technology passively maintains a safe fridge temperature range without needing a screen to confirm it.

Is The Nomad Approved For Air Travel? Can I Pack It In My Carry-On?

Absolutely! The Nomad Insulin Carrying Case is fully approved for airport security and can be carried through in your carry-on — whether you're flying from a Canadian airport, across the US, or on international routes.

💡Do make sure to carry your medication alongside your travel cooler to show it's being used for medical purposes — this makes getting through security quick and easy.

Can I Use The Nomad To Carry Open, In-Use Insulin Pens or Vials?

It depends on your insulin or medication's specific storage instructions.

The Nomad is engineered to maintain refrigerated temperatures (2–8°C), which may be too cold for some types and brands of insulin or medication that should be kept cool but not returned to the fridge after opening.

💡 To protect your in-use insulin pen or medication from heat, we'd recommend checking out the Rambler single-pen cooler, the Rambler PRO, or the Chillers cool pouches instead.

What If I Need To Keep My Medication Cold for More Than 33 Hours?

Simply pick up additional Biogel Ice Packs from 4AllFamily and swap them out once the first pack warms up.

Pop the used pack back in the freezer while the second one is doing its job, and you've got continuous, uninterrupted refrigeration — perfect for longer trips or traveling without reliable freezer access.

What Is The Return And Warranty Policy For The Nomad?

Not happy with your cooling case? No worries — you've got 30 days from delivery to request a return.

🔍 Check out our return policy page for the full details.

Your Nomad also comes with a 1-year warranty, and if you'd like some extra peace of mind, you can add up to 3 more years of coverage at checkout for a small fee. We cover all defects and malfunctions — just not scratches, everyday wear, or accidental damage.

And our Lifetime Customer-Oriented Support team is always available — just reach out, whatever you need.
