Traveling with chronic diseases like diabetes can be stressful, especially when your treatment depends on refrigerated and temperature-sensitive medications like Mounjaro or insulin.

Whether for a day trip, a week holiday, or a year around the globe, planning and packing your medicines and medical supplies must be well thought out to ensure they get to your destination without any issue.

Depending on the length of your trip, your destination (national or international), and your transportation means (airplane, car, boat, train), there are some precautions to take and documents to prepare to travel with Mounjaro injections.

Mounjaro Travel Cases

The temperature is the first and most important thing to consider before traveling with Mounjaro pens.

As you know, Tirzepatide, the active ingredient in Mounjaro, is a biological drug that must be refrigerated to stay effective.

According to Eli Lilly, Mounjaro’s manufacturer, your pens can only stay out of the fridge for 21 days, and when they do, they still need to be protected from high heat.

Exposure to temperatures above 30°C, even briefly, could spoil the medicine inside your pen and make it lose part or all of its potency.

These temperature restrictions imply extra care when traveling with Mounjaro, especially in two kinds of scenarios:
  1. You’re traveling for more than 21 days. In that case, you must keep your pens constantly refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C.
  1. You're traveling for less than 21 days, but the outside temperature may get higher than 30°C. In that case, you must protect your pens from the heat and ensure they stay at room temperature.

Fortunately, we’ve got you covered. Keeping medications cool while you're traveling is our job! We’ve designed the most convenient and performant medical-grade travel coolers. Here are our best travel cases for Mounjaro pens:

Flying with Mounjaro

Many of you are wondering if you can take Mounjaro on a plane. Yes, you can!
When flying with Mounjaro, always pack your injection pens in your carry-on bag. Never leave them in the checked luggage, as the hazardous temperature and atmospheric conditions could damage your medicine.

You can download a diabetes travel letter. It's no obligation, but it may help speed up and smooth the airport security screening process.

When flying outside Canada to international destinations with medications like Mounjaro, you might be required to show the following documentation:
  • A doctor’s letter
  • Your medical prescriptions
  • A document from your pharmacy
  • The original containers and labels of the medicine
  • Proof of medical insurance

Inquire with the embassy or local representatives or your destination country before departure.
