Cooling Time & Temperature

Cooling Performance on USB Power

We test all our medical-grade travel coolers in the laboratory.

When plugged into a power source, the Voyager maintains an inside fridge-like temperature range of 2–8°C constantly and for unlimited time when the outside temperature is not higher than 35°C.

Mini Fridge Performance with Biogel Ice Pack

When used without power in off-grid travel situations, the Voyager still offers you plenty of time to keep your medications refrigerated. It all depends on how hot it is outside!

🌡️ At 30°C, it keeps your insulin and medications refrigerated between 2–8°C for 33 hours and cool below 26°C for 52 hours.

🌡️ At 35°C, it keeps your insulin and medications refrigerated between 2–8°C for 30 hours and cool below 26°C for 48 hours.

🌡️ At 40°C, it keeps your insulin and medications refrigerated between 2–8°C for 28 hours and cool below 26°C for 46 hours.

How to Use Your Cooler

The Voyager portable fridge for insulin offers remarkable flexibility for travellers on the go, ensuring your medications remain cool whether you have access to power or not. Perfect for any travel scenario, from city breaks to wilderness escapes, here's how to use each of its two cooling methods:

How to Use on USB-Powered Portable Refrigerator Mode

  1. Load Your Medications: Insert your insulin pens, vials, syringes, or other medications into the USB-lid compartment as indicated in our visual guide.
  2. Seal and Connect: Simply close the lid of your mini
travel fridge and connect it to any USB power source. Setup is effortless!

The USB mini medical fridge is compatible with any USB power source, including car cigarette lighters, portable power banks, solar panels, or household power outlets.

How to Use The Mini Fridge on Cold Pack Mode

For times when you find yourself away from power sources, the Voyager mini fridge provides a dependable backup cooling option with the included Biogel cold pack. This is especially useful for exploring remote areas or during power outages.

Setting Up Your Mini Fridge for Cold Medicine Storage:

  1. Prepare the Biogel Cold Pack: Shake the Biogel cold pack four to five times to ensure the gel is evenly distributed.
  2. Freeze the Biogel Cold Pack: Place the cold pack in the freezer for 6-8 hours prior to use. It's perfectly fine to leave it in the freezer longer than 8 hours.
  3. Submerge in Lukewarm Water: Submerge the cold pack in lukewarm tap water for 120-180 seconds. If lukewarm water isn't available, you can also leave it at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes. Both methods will help remove the ice layer (frost) from the surface of the cooling component, eliminating the risks of freezing your medication when in direct contact.
  4. Dry and Pack: Towel dry the Biogel cold pack then place it inside the Voyager mini fridge along with your insulin or other medication.
  5. Close and Set! Close the lid securely, and your medications are ready to be kept cool.

For extended cooling periods, it's a good idea to have a second Biogel cold pack ready in the freezer to swap out as needed. Additional Biogel cold packs for the Voyager Mini Portable Fridge for Insulin and Medicine are available for purchase.

Maintenance & Cleaning Instructions

When used with the USB-LID, the Voyager mini fridge cannot be used upside down.

Most importantly, the heat dissipation holes above the USB-LID should not be covered or blocked. If you do not follow this precaution, the cooling effect will weaken and the cooler will break down.

Every few weeks, you can use an air compressor or hairdryer set to cool setting to blow air into the dissipation holes of the USB-Lid to remove the dust inside. This will extend the product's life span and ensure optimal performance.

We highly suggest that you unplug the USB-Cooling LID for 15-20 minutes to rest after 4 days of continuous use in order to extend the product's life expectancy.

Cleaning instructions:

  • Do not directly clean the exterior of the Voyager with water, as it will damage electronic components.
  • You can use a damp cloth to gently wipe the stainless steel thermos and the stainless steel LID by hand.
  • The Biogel-Ice Pack should be cleaned only with a soft cloth.
  • The top part of the USB-LID can be cleaned only by blowing air into the dissipation holes, while the aluminum tube can only be wiped with a soft cloth.
  • If there are any oxidation marks on the surface of the USB-Lid's aluminum tube, wipe and clean it with aluminum cleaner. As its material is aluminum with good thermal conductivity, oxidation is a normal phenomenon.

Frequently asked questions

How Long Does The Voyager Portable Fridge Keep Medications Cold?

It depends on which cooling mode you're using.

In Biogel passive cooling mode, the Voyager keeps your medications refrigerated (2–8°C) for up to 28–32 hours, and cool below 26°C for up to 46–52 hours, depending on the ambient temperature.

In USB electric cooling mode, refrigeration is continuous as long as outside temperatures stay below 35°C. Above 40°C, USB mode keeps medications cool below 26°C but can't quite maintain full fridge temperature.

How Many Insulin Pens Fit In The Voyager Portable Fridge?

The Voyager Portable Fridge holds up to 7 standard-format insulin pens commonly prescribed in Canada (Lantus, NovoRapid, Toujeo, Admelog, Novomix, Actrapid, and others) and up to 5 pens of wider formats (Levemir, Tresiba, Basaglar, Humalog, Fiasp, and others).

🔍 Check the full medication compatibility list in the product images or contact our support team for personalized advice.

Can I Use The Voyager Fridge to Carry GLP-1 Injections Like Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro?

Absolutely! The Voyager is an excellent mini fridge for GLP-1 medications.

It holds up to 5 Ozempic or Wegovy pens, up to 5 Saxenda pens, up to 6 Mounjaro KwikPens, and up to 2 Trulicity pens, among many others.

🔍 If you're not sure about your specific medication or pen format, contact our support team for personalized advice.

My Medication Is Not On The Compatibility List. Can I Still Use The Voyager?

Very likely, yes! What determines compatibility with our travel coolers is primarily the physical size of your injection device — whether your pen, syringe, or vial fits within the internal chamber, and how many you can carry at once.

🔍 If your medication isn't listed, check the internal dimensions in the product images, or get in touch with our support team with the name and format of your medication and we'll be happy to guide you personally.

How Do I Trust My Medication is At The Right Temperature In The Fridge?

The Voyager Portable Fridge for Insulin & Medications comes with a built-in temperature display screen that shows you the internal temperature in real time, so you can check everything's within the safe range without ever having to open the lid.

It's also got a clever auto shut-off system built in: if the internal temperature drops below 2°C, the fridge switches itself off to stop your medication from freezing, then kicks back in once things warm back up to 8°C.

Can I Use The Voyager To Carry Open, In-Use Insulin Pens Or Vials?

It depends on your insulin or medication's specific storage instructions.

The Voyager is engineered to maintain refrigerated temperatures (2–8°C), which may be too cold for some types and brands of insulin or medication that should be kept cool but not returned to the fridge after opening.

💡 To protect your in-use insulin pen or medication from heat, we'd recommend checking out the Rambler, the Rambler PRO, or the Chillers cool pouches instead

What Power Sources Work With The Voyager's USB Lid?

The Voyager's USB lid uses a USB-C to USB-A cable (included) and is compatible with any standard USB power source — portable power banks, car USB chargers, solar panels, and household USB wall adapters. This makes it equally practical for road trips, camping with a solar panel, flights with a power bank, or plugging in at a hotel or the office.

💡 Heading off on a longer trip? The 4AllFamily Pathfinder 20,000 mAh power bank is a purpose-built companion for continuous cooling on the go.

Can I Use The Voyager In My Car Or Powered By A Solar Panel When Off-Grid?

Absolutely! The Voyager Portable Fridge for Insulin & Medications works with any USB power source, making it great for all kinds of travel situations.

For road trips, simply plug it into your car's USB port or a car charger adapter, and it'll keep your medications cold for as long as you're driving.

For outdoor adventures like hiking or camping, it works just as well with a portable USB solar panel or a power bank.

💡 If no power source is available at all, you can also switch to the included Biogel Ice Pack for up to 52 hours of passive cooling with no electricity required.

Can The Voyager Keep Medications Cold Without Being Plugged In?

Yes and no!

When using the electric USB lid, the Voyager needs to be connected to an external power source at all times — it doesn't have a built-in battery like the Pioneer PRO.

However, when no power is available, simply switch to the included Biogel Ice Pack for up to 52 hours of passive cooling — no electricity needed.

Is The Voyager Portable Fridge Easy To Carry Around?

The Voyager Portable Fridge for Insulin & Medications comes with a strap holder, so you can hang it from a bag, a stroller, a wheelchair, or simply carry it hands-free.

It also includes a carrying bag that fits snugly around the fridge for extra protection and easier transport in a backpack or purse.

The Voyager's cylindrical shape (8.5 cm / 3.3 in diameter) fits comfortably in most bag side pockets or cup holders. Loaded with medications, it's still light enough for everyday carry.

What Is The Voyager Made Of, And Is It Safe For Medication Storage?

The Voyager Portable Fridge for Insulin & Medications is made from food-grade stainless steel 304, both for the outer thermos body and the inner tube. This material is non-toxic, corrosion-resistant, and widely used in medical and food-grade applications, making it perfectly safe for direct contact with your medication containers. The aluminum components of the USB lid offer excellent thermal conductivity for efficient cooling performance.

What Is The Difference Between 4AllFamily's Voyager, Voyager XL, And Voyager Mini?

The three Voyager mini fridges from 4AllFamily share the same dual cooling system — USB electric and Biogel passive mode — but differ in storage capacity and size.

The standard Voyager (8.5 cm / 3.3 in diameter, 25 cm / 9.8 in tall) holds up to 7 standard insulin pens and suits most travel needs.

The Voyager XL offers a larger internal chamber, ideal if you need to carry more pens, vials, or a mix of injection types.

The Voyager Mini is a more compact fridge, designed for those who only need to carry 1–3 insulin pens and want something smaller and lighter.

🔍 Not sure which mini fridge best suits your medication and lifestyle? Get in touch with our support team and we'll be happy to help you choose!

Absolutely! Like all 4AllFamily's medical travel coolers, the Voyager Portable Fridge for Insulin & Medications is fully approved for airport security and can be carried through in your carry-on — whether you're flying from a Canadian airport, across the US, or on international routes.

💡 Do make sure to carry your medications alongside your mini fridge to show it's being used for medical purposes — this makes getting through security quick and easy.

What Is The Return And Warranty Policy For The Voyager?

Not happy with your portable fridge? No worries — you've got 30 days from delivery to request a return.
